Peru: Flag Parade leads Arequipa's 478th anniversary festivities

18:10 | Arequipa (Arequipa region), Aug. 13.

Arequipa City's 478th foundation anniversary celebrations resumed with the traditional Flag Parade.

Activities started on Monday morning when the banner was paraded through the streets of the well-known White City's historic center.

The flag was then handed over to Archbishop Monsignor Javier del Rio, who received Arequipa's symbol in the Cathedral's Atrium. He then placed it next to the Virgin of the Assumption image.

It will remain in the temple until Tuesday when the main ceremony for the metropolis' 478th anniversary takes places.

Delegations of students, school bands, municipal officials, and higher institutes joined the parade through the streets of Arequipa

A school band competition also took place in the afternoon.
