Peru: First Lady attends musical instruments donation ceremony

19:01 | Lima, Sep. 21.

First Lady Maribel Diaz on Friday attended the ceremony marking the donation of musical instruments made by the Chinese Embassy to Juan Diego Florez-founded Symphony for Peru orchestra.

Clarinets, bassoons, and English horns were among the woodwind instruments —worth S/220,000 (around US$66,666) — which were donated thanks to Mrs. Diaz's efforts.

Chinese Ambassador to Peru Jia Guide also attended the event and stressed the importance of this gesture aimed at improving the artistic development of the program's young musicians.

As is known, Symphony for Peru —founded by the Inca country's most famous tenor Juan Diego Florez— is a social project intended to boost the artistic and personal growth of the most vulnerable minors through music.

This contribution reflects the good bilateral relationship between China and Peru, which has led to cooperation in diverse areas such as education, health, and assistance in case of natural disasters.

On the other hand, the First Lady expressed gratitude to the Chinese official for the generosity shown to the organization's youngsters, adding that "music means inclusion."

Likewise, she highlighted music practice helps reduce physical and psychological violence among children, as well as develop pedagogic skills in them.

The President's wife recognized the efforts undertaken by the program to benefit 7,000 economically disadvantaged children who play classical music.

Moreover, its goal is to expand coverage to 20,000 youngsters by 2021.

The minors played Mozart's A Little Night Music and Antonin Dvorak's New World Symphony to close the ceremony.

Additionally, Sun's Virgins —a small instrumental Andean recital— was performed with the English horn, played for the first time by the group thanks to the donation.
