Peru: Executive Branch to step up joint efforts with regional governments

08:00 | Lima, Oct. 4.

Peru's Prime Minister Vicente Zeballos held a working meeting with members of the National Assembly of Regional Governments (ANGR) to reiterate the Government's pledge to continue working in a coordinated manner, strengthen institutions, and promote regional investment projects.

Zeballos thanked regional authorities for supporting the Executive Branch's decisions regarding the dissolution of Congress.

In addition, he confirmed the first session of the Council of Ministers was held at the Government Palace following the swearing-in of the Ministerial Cabinet on Thursday.

"The aim is to strengthen institutions and restore trust of citizens. Beyond political disagreements, we have to be cautious about public spending, because we have to be accountable to the population. Now we've got bigger challenges," Zeballos emphasized.

The Cabinet chief reaffirmed that a regional governor will join the session of the Council of Ministers once a month.

He also announced a GORE Digital meeting will be held in Cajamarca at the end of October and that the 12th GORE Executive meeting is scheduled to take place in late 2019.

The latter seeks to make further progress towards investment, strengthen management, and optimize results in regions all over the country.

For their part, regional governors supported the Executive Branch's actions to resolve the current political crisis and deemed it necessary to continue improving the efficiency of spending, and strengthen investment for the benefit of the population.
