On the first day of the brand-new free and universal vaccination process in Peru, a total of 15,293 people over the age of 80 were vaccinated against COVID-19 in 22 districts belonging to Metropolitan Lima and Callao region, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) has reported.

The campaign was possible thanks to the articulated efforts of Minsa, the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud), Metropolitan Solidarity System (Sisol), Armed Forces, National Police, district municipalities, and Regional Health Directorates (Diresa).

In a statement, Minsa has indicated that the vaccination process will continue this weekend (April 17-18), while those, who cannot attend on any of these dates, can do so on April 19-20.

"We remind the vaccinated population that a second dose is required for an adequate protection, which will be administered after 21 days. The vaccine does not prevent COVID-19 infection. Therefore, preventive measures, such as the use of two face masks, hand washing and avoiding crowds, should be maintained," it indicated.

Districts

People over the age of 80, of any nationality and who are not on the list, can request the dose at any vaccination point, preferably on April 19 and 20.

In order to receive the dose, citizens must prove that they reside in any of the following districts: Cercado, Callao, San Juan de Miraflores, Villa María del Triunfo, Los Olivos, Villa El Salvador, Chorrillos, San Luis, San Isidro, Rímac, Independencia, San Miguel, La Victoria, Lince, Jesús María, Magdalena del Mar, San Borja, Breña, Bellavista, La Perla, Carmen de la Legua, or La Punta.
