Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Rocio Barrios estimates that the Economic Reactivation's Phase 4 could start in October, although this will depend a lot on the responsibility of all Peruvians.

"We expect the start of Phase 4, and we believe that October might be a good time, but there is nothing defined yet and this will depend on the responsibility of all Peruvians," she said in remarks to Canal N.

The government official noted that the economic activities of the first three phases have already resumed, although entertainment activities are still on hold, which are not prudent, considering the context of the non-social gathering strategy.

However, there are Phase 4 activities that need to resume soon, such as international flights, she emphasized.

In this way, the minister believes that a break-up of activities is needed in Phase 4 and that the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) —together with the Economic Reopening Commission— are doing so with all pending economic activities.

"Thus, a gradual process will take place in the face of Phase 4, but this shall take into account the results of the health sector," she commented.

International flights

According to Barrios, there are essential flights that operate following the required (health) protocols, which show how air travel is currently working.

Moreover, she said there is a commission made up of all the ministries involved in cross-sectoral actions for the resumption of international flights so as to assess —ahead of the beginning of Phase 4— how this restart will be, as well as which areas and regions will be involved.
