arrived in Peru's southern Tacna region on Friday along with 196 Armed Forces members in order to provide support at border points.
The high-ranking official reported that the deployment in Tacna is made up of 196 members, including an Air Force team that will carry out a special mission.
"The deployment of the task force consists of approximately 196 Armed Forces members. It includes Air Force members who are going to carry out a special mission on a surveillance point on the highway," the official explained.
Minister Chavez Cresta announced that, during his visit to Tacna,
he will verify the deployment of these troops in a space of approximately 12.5 km that goes from Milestone No. 1 to No. 15.
"There are 12 observation posts (for surveillance) that will be carried out jointly with our police," he added.
"We have started today, not only in Tacna region, but in the areas where we have been assigned that responsibility through the Defense sector and the Joint Command of the Armed Forces," Minister Chavez Cresta indicated.
Lastly, the official stressed that said support for police agents does not correspond to a militarization of regions but to the constitutional fulfillment of duties —in accordance with the provisions of the emergency declaration.
