Copa America 2021 on Sunday, after defeating Venezuela 1-0 at Mane Garrincha Stadium in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia.
Thus, the Incas advanced to the quarterfinals of the CONMEBOL competition and sent Venezuelans home.
Gareca's men will have to wait until Group A wraps up play on Monday to know their opponents.
Peru's Andre Carrillo gave his team the lead in the 48th minute, firing into the net after a corner.
The Peruvian side played an orderly game at all times, while Venezuelans were a little nervous at first due to their need to collect three points to get into the next stage.
Peru had some opportunities to score, including an attempt missed by Yoshimar Yotun at 12'.
The result means Peru qualifies from Group B in second place behind host Brazil, along with Colombia and Ecuador.
This is the tenth time that Peru reaches the quarterfinals of the Copa America tournament.
