Peru Culture Min hears indigenous peoples' concerns during visit to Loreto

A high-level government delegation, led by Culture Minister Alejandro Neyra, on Monday met with indigenous peoples' members in Loreto region.

During the gathering, the minister listened to members of such populations in order to reopen communication channels and solve the conflict in Block 95.

As is known, a clash outside Petrotal company in the locality of Bretaña, located in Puinahua district, left 3 locals dead as well as 11 civilians and 6 police officers injured.

For their part, the indigenous peoples' members expressed their needs in terms of health care during the coronavirus pandemic.

"We've come to find out your priorities and needs, particularly regarding health. We are willing to hear you and convey all your comments to the Government in order to provide the care that our indigenous peoples deserve," the government official said.

The meeting featured members of the Indigenous COVID-19 Command in Loreto and representatives of the Ombudsman Office.
