In a message on the occasion of the
International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, Peru's Culture Minister Alejandro Neyra reaffirmed the Government's commitment to working for the rights of this population throughout the country.
Thus, his sector joined different institutions in greeting Peruvian indigenous peoples on their day.
"Today, in commemoration of the first international meeting on indigenous peoples, we reaffirm our commitment to continue working to ensure the effective exercise of their rights and full citizenship for our indigenous brothers and sisters," the Culture Ministry's head posted on Twitter.
Additionally, Neyra remarked that his sector will continue to improve the living conditions of indigenous communities and bridge gaps.
The government official affirmed that the necessary help will be provided to tackle the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
9 August commemorates the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples. It is celebrated around the world and marks the date of the inaugural session of the Working Group on Indigenous Populations at the United Nations in 1982.
