Last April, credit to the private sector —which includes loans granted by banks, finance companies, municipal and rural savings banks, and cooperatives— rose 0.4% year-on-year and 0.6% month-on-month, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) has reported.

By currencies, credit in Peruvian Soles grew 0.7% in April 2024 compared to the same month of the previous year, while the year-on-year rate in U.S. Dollars was -0.6%.

By segment, credit to individuals grew 4.6% year-on-year last month due to higher loans in Peruvian Soles (5% year-on-year).

Compared to the same month in 2023, consumer credit increased by 4.1%, and mortgage loans grew at a year-on-year rate of 5.3%.

The year-on-year percentage change in credit to companies was -2.3% in April, which takes into account the impact of the amortizations and cancellations of loans under the Reactiva Peru Program during the period.

The increase in credit to companies, without considering the Reactiva Peru Program, amounted to 1.5% last April with respect to the same month of the previous year.
