Sinopharm's COVID-19 vaccines for clinical trials in Peru will arrive on Thursday, September 3, to be tested on
volunteers registered in an online database.
This information was provided by
Dr. German Malaga —principal investigator of the vaccine study at Lima-based Cayetano Heredia University— who said the vaccines will be brought by a delegation of scientists on a charter flight.
"On September 3, a chartered airplane will bring the Chinese delegation of scientists and logistics people with whom we are coordinating arduously and intensely," he explained.
Malaga affirmed that the personnel working in the research have already begun to contact those volunteers who registered on Sunday and estimates that the vaccination is expected to be completed in about three months, at a rate of 1,000 per month.
Afterwards, they will receive the informed consent form. If they agree with everything stated in the document and sign it, they will go through a medical evaluation to determine if they qualify and, if everything is fine, they will be vaccinated.
"We are polishing all the details so that the study can be conducted meticulously, safely, and in great detail," he said.
Moreover, the scientist noted that conducting a study of this magnitude "is an unprecedented event" in Peru.
