Defense Minister Nuria Esparch affirmed that the COVID-19 vaccines administered in Peru are safe and constitute a way to get back to normal as long as the largest number of people get vaccinated.
"It is important that we are all aware that the vaccines are safe, that we need them, and that getting vaccinated is the only way to get back to normal," she said on Saturday, just before midnight, as she monitored the vaccinathon against COVID-19 at Luis Galvez Chipoco stadium in Lima's Barranco district.
During her visit, Esparch confirmed the normal course of the process and highlighted the mass participation of people over 45 years of age, who were received by Minsa staff with the corresponding health protocols.
"I am sure that people are going en masse. The vaccination sites are everywhere, and everyone has access to them. You just have to be 45 years or older to receive the vaccine (…)," she indicated.
The supervisory activity included the participation of Barranco Mayor Jose Rodriguez and the head of the Directorate of Integrated Health Networks (Diris) in Southern Lima Alberto Tejada, who was convinced that the target number of vaccinated citizens will be achieved.
"The goal is to vaccinate 30,000 in Southern Lima, as well as 200,000 in Metropolitan Lima and Callao, which we expect to surpass as we did last week," he explained.
The vaccinathon —an uninterrupted 36-hour vaccination event— is taking place at different centers across Lima and Callao. It started on Saturday at 7:00 a.m. and will run until Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
Moreover, the minister remarked that she will release a report on her sector's performance on Monday.
