The vaccination against COVID-19 of people aged 58 and 59 began in Lima Metropolitan Area and Callao on Friday, Health Minister Oscar Ugarte has confirmed.

In remarks to RPP, the high-ranking official explained that the population aged between 56 and 57 will get vaccinated afterwards, and so on until Minsa reaches those of 50 years of age.

"We hope that by the end of July we will have already included all 50-year-olds and, hopefully, (immunized) with the two doses," he expressed.

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) invites citizens to log on to the official "Pongo el Hombro" (I Lend a Shoulder) website so that they find out where and when to get vaccinated.

For her part, Minsa's Immunization Directorate head Gabriela Jimenez indicated that the
population aged between 58 and 59 is scheduled to receive the vaccine in Lima and Callao from June 25 to 27.

In this regard, the high-ranking official said that the Government is accelerating the vaccination process and fulfilling —ahead of schedule— its commitment to immunize the entire population over 60 years of age before July 28, 2021.

Recruitment of vaccinators

In this sense, the minister affirmed that the growing arrival of vaccines in
Peru is requiring the expansion of immunization points and brigades.

"The hiring (of vaccinators) is already underway because we have more vaccines and greater organizational capacity, and that is growing. Thus, we can expand it (the service) to those aged 50 and, hopefully, we are going to start with those of 40 years before we leave office," he noted.

In any case, Ugarte assured that everything will be planned so that the new Government —which takes office on July 28— can continue with the National Vaccination Plan for the benefit of the entire population.
