During a plenary session on Thursday, Congress rejected admitting for debate two presidential impeachment motions, on the grounds of moral incapacity, presented by some parliamentary groups.

The first of them —promoted by Peru Libre (Free Peru party)— was rejected, with 33 votes in favor, 49 against, and 15 abstentions, Congress Chairman Alejandro Soto reported.

The person in charge of supporting the first motion was Congresswoman Margot Palacios —the main spokesperson for the parliamentary group.

This request was presented following the use of high-end watches by the Head of State,
and the preliminary proceedings initiated by the Public Ministry on the matter.

Subsequently, the second impeachment motion was read. It was promoted by Cambio Democratico-Juntos por el Peru (Democratic Change-Together for Peru) parliamentary group over the same reason. The support was provided by Congresswoman Sigrid Bazan.

This proposal was rejected by 32 votes in favor, 59 against, and 11 abstentions. Therefore, it was shelved.
