Peru: Congress censures Interior Minister

20:00 | Lima, Jun. 30.

Parliament approved a censure motion against Minister of Interior Dimitri Senmache during a plenary session on Thursday afternoon.

The initiative was approved with 78 votes in favor, 29 against, and 8 abstentions.

Fuerza Popular Congressman Hernando Guerra-Garcia supported Motion No. 3185, which proposed the censure of Minister Senmache due to the "lack of management capacity in leading the sector and the serious neglect of duties which have been harming the country."

The Cabinet member was accused of being politically responsible for the escape of
former Transportation and Communications Minister Juan Silva
, who is wanted by Peruvian justice.

Likewise, alleged inaction to capture former Presidential Office Secretary Bruno Pacheco, as well as Fray Vasquez —President Pedro Castillo's nephew— was attributed to Senmache.

Both Pacheco and Vasquez are also wanted by Peruvian justice.

The approval of this motion will be notified to the President of the Republic in order to comply with the provisions of the Political Constitution's Article 132 and Congress Regulations' Article 86, Subparagraph B.
