Congress Board officials and members of various parliamentary groups on Friday met with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) delegation visiting Peru to gather information on social protests and the current context.

The meeting with the Board —which lasted almost one hour— was held at the office of Congress' Chairman Jose Williams Zapata.

Via his Twitter account, Chairman Williams Zapata indicated that IARCH mission members "have expressed their concern for the people who have passed away during the violent protests which have been registered in the south of the country."

Subsequently, the IACHR members met indistinctly with representatives of parties: Acción Popular (Popular Action), Perú Democrático (Democratic Peru), Podemos Perú (We can Peru), Perú Bicentenario (Bicentennial Peru), and Fuerza Popular (Popular Force).

Besides, IACHR delegates spoke with Bloque Magisterial de Concertación Nacional (Magisterial Bloc of National Agreement), Cambio Democrático-Juntos por el Perú (Democratic Change-Together for Peru), Alianza Para el Progreso (Alliance for Progress), Perú Libre (Free Peru), Somos Perú (We are Peru), and non-grouped legislators.

The representatives of Renovación Popular (Popular Renewal) and Avanza País (Go on Country) benches did not participate in the aforementioned meetings.

The mission's visit to Peru takes place from January 11 to 13. As a result, in the exercise of duties, the IACHR plans to publish its observations, conclusions, and recommendations to the Peruvian State.
