Peru: Congress authorizes President Boluarte's trip to France

Congress authorized the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, to leave the national territory from June 7 to 11 to participate in the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), which will be held in Nice, France.

The legislative resolution authorizing the trip was approved with 58 votes in favor, 35 against, and 2 abstentions during the plenary session held on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Article 78 of Congress' Regulations, the legislative resolution bill does not require a second vote, Congress' First Vice Chairwoman Patricia Juarez stated. She presided over this part of the plenary session.

Meeting with President Macron


The text indicates that this meeting "will substantially contribute to strengthening the excellent relations with a country that is currently developing the most important infrastructure projects in Peru, thereby deepening its economic and cooperative presence in our country," with the aim of consolidating a privileged partnership with France.

Regarding the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), the request noted that the President's presence will reaffirm Peru's commitment to environmental sustainability, strengthen its leadership in Latin America on ocean governance issues, and provide an opportunity to engage with other heads of state and government, as well as with governmental and non-governmental stakeholders involved in ocean conservation and management.

The document also highlighted that her presence will strengthen Peru's candidacy for re-election to the 
International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council.
