The plenary of Congress on Wednesday evening approved the draft legislative resolution authorizing President Dina Boluarte's trip to Ecuador on May 24 to attend the inauguration of President Daniel Noboa.

The proposal received 49 votes in favor, 31 against, and one abstention.

According to the approved text, the Head of State will be permitted to leave the country on Saturday, May 24, 2025, the day of Mr. Noboa's inauguration ceremony.

The ceremony will take place at Ecuador's National Assembly headquarters, in the city of Quito, starting at 10:00 a.m. (local time).

Earlier, Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer presented the Executive Branch's request to lawmakers.

In his speech, he stated that the top official's trip will help strengthen the diplomatic and political ties with the neighboring country, as well as bring benefits to the border communities and the nation as a whole.

"Our participation at the highest level in Ecuador's presidential inauguration ceremony will demonstrate, once again, our institutional continuity, our commitment to peace, and our willingness for active cooperation with Ecuador," Schialer said while requesting the parliamentarians' vote.

Moments earlier, during a press conference following the Council of Ministers session, he emphasized that President Boluarte's trip is "an international obligation of the highest importance," due to the significant support Ecuador provides to our country in multilateral organizations, and vice versa.
