Peru, Colombia coordinate actions to protect Amazon

President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday announced Peru and Colombia coordinate actions for the protection of the Amazon and will hold another meeting at the shared border with Brazil, in order to make a commitment on the matter.

In this sense, the hosting nation's Head of State indicated that —during his recent meeting with Colombian counterpart Ivan Duque— they agreed on the need to integrate policies aimed at protecting the Amazonia

According to the top official, the goal is to achieve a long-term common approach in order to prevent deforestation and secure the protection of forests. 

Likewise, he pointed out this effort includes calling for all Amazon countries to develop a common approach. 

Furthermore, the statesman informed both countries currently coordinate stronger responses concerning the international fight against corruption, as well as measures to help solve the humanitarian and migratory crisis in Venezuela.


It must be noted Binational Cabinets constitute a mechanism for political dialogue between two nations with the purpose of working on specific issues of common concern included in the bilateral agenda.
