12:33 | Arequipa (Arequipa region), Aug. 1.

Arequipa region's Colca Valley has broken a new record by having welcomed more than 34,000 visitors in July 2018, Caylloma Province Mayor Romulo Tinta reported on Wednesday.

As is known, the tourist destination received 32,919 sightseers (July 2017) and 33,421 guests (August 2017).

According to Tinta, August will be a positive month for the area, not only due to high season, but also because Arequipa will celebrate its anniversary. Within this framework, sightseers usually decide to visit Colca Valley.

Colca tourist industry currently works hard to offer visitors adequate services, which include various artistic-cultural activities.

The official added tourist flow figures are favorable. In this sense, over 280,000 travelers are expected to have arrived at Colca Valley thru year-end, a higher number compared to 2017 (250,000).

Furthermore, he said Caylloma province citizens will participate in the Regional Parade featuring "Carnavales de Chivay" (Chivay's Carnivals) dances on the occasion of Arequipa's anniversary celebrations.
