17:22 | Lima, Apr. 18.

Peru's cod shipments totaled US$471,592 in the first two months of 2019, a 43% decrease over the same period last year, due to a lower presence of this fish, the Association of Peruvian Exporters (Adex) informed Thursday.

The United States was the only destination for this product, which entered the North American country via the airports located in Los Angeles, Miami, and Seattle.

Cod is sold as a frozen or fresh good.

According to Adex Data Trade Intelligence System, the South American country exported 22,000 tons of cod between January and February 2019. 33,000 tons were sold in the same term in 2018.

In January, the Production Ministry established the maximum cod fishing quota would be 161,000 tons this year.

Likewise, Adex informed the Inca country's cod exports amounted to US$2.856 million in 2018, a 35% decrease compared to the previous year (US$4.397 million).
