Several activities and events are being held all over the country, mainly in Lima, in order to honor the Peruvian flagship beverage, Pisco Sour, on its National Day as it is part of the Peruvian culture and gives nationals and travelers a chance to hang out together.

Two big events have been already announced as part of the celebrations. One of them is the Pisco Sour Festival, which runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. today until Sunday Feb. 7 at the Chabuca Granda boulevard under the auspices of the Municipality of Lima.

Exhibitors, producers and representatives from Lima, Tacna, Ica, Arequipa, Pisco, Chincha, Cañete, Lunahuana, Catapalla and Pacaran were brought together for this year’s edition.

The event will feature cultural activities such as a pedestrian Pisco Sour route.

It seeks to promote pisco producers, mostly small entrepreneurs, and foster local traditions among nationals and foreigners who, besides enjoying tourist attractions in Downtown Lima, will contribute to the growth and economic development of the area.

Attendees will be able to enjoy performances by popular Peruvian and Colombian salsa groups as well.

Another two-day festival will run until tomorrow at the Costa Verde seashore of Lima's Magdalena del Mar district.

Pisco Sour lovers will have the chance to enjoy free tastings of the flagship beverage as well as other pisco-based drinks such as chilcano, macerado and countless cocktails.

Visitors will be invited to attend conferences given by pisco experts, and witness musical shows and performances by reggae and rock bands.

The 'Pisco Sour Fest Costa Verde' will also see the participation of renowned chef Cucho La Rosa.

The event will feature a screening of the documentary Alcurnia Pisquera (Pisco Lineage) and the competition Pisco Sour Año Centenario (Pisco Sour Centennial Year) including the Bars and Restaurants, Wineries and Producers and, Schools categories.

Moreover, Peruvian paso horse and marinera dance exhibitions will take place before the Miss Pisco 2016 is elected.

The first Saturday of February was declared Dia del Pisco Sour, or National Pisco Sour Day by the Ministry of Production in April 2004.

Since then, the cocktail has replaced wine and champagne for official toasts at the presidential palace and celebrations at ministries and embassies.

In October 2007, the spirituous drink was declared Peruvian cultural heritage by the Peruvian National Institute of Culture.
