Peru's former Prime Minister Betssy Chavez reached the headquarters of the Lima-based Palace of Justice on Wednesday to participate in an identity control hearing.

The official vehicle arrived at the Judiciary amid a major security operation conducted by police agents.

As stated earlier, the ex-Cabinet chief had been referred to the Supreme Court of Preparatory Investigation headed by Judge Juan Carlos Checkley.

The identity control hearing serves to gather personal information of the investigated person and to let her know about her rights.

The short session included the participation of the involved parties, such as the Prosecutor's Office, the accused and her lawyer, as well as the judge presiding over the hearing.

At the hearing, the former Prime Minister provided her full name and the requested personal information.

Likewise, the defendant indicated that she underwent a medical examination a few hours after she was arrested in the city of Tacna.

It should be noted that Chavez affirmed that she was informed of her rights also at home, although she did not have a lawyer at that moment.

In addition, the former congresswoman requested that she serve her pre-trial custody sentence in Tacna, since she has no relatives in Lima.

In this regard, Judge Checkley remarked that said issue must be resolved by the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE), noting that he will inform said institution about it, so that it can determine the penitentiary prison for Chavez to serve the pre-trial custody sentence.
