Peru attractive to Dutch investors

14:33 | Lima, Oct. 15.

Peru is on the radar of Dutch investments due to its favorable environment for entrepreneurial activity, its economic trajectory over the last 25 years, and strong bilateral relations, the Netherlands Ambassador to Peru Wiebe de Boer said Monday.

Likewise, Dutch business people are interested in the cooperation and transfer of new technologies, the official told El Peruano official gazette

According to the envoy, the European country's financial institutions and investors view Peru as one of the most interesting nations in Latin America when it comes to investment.

"For you, a 4% annual growth rate is a crisis, but for us and the world, this is a high expansion rate," de Boer expressed.

"Additionally, it (Peru) provides a favorable environment for companies. Being part of the Pacific Alliance gives you strength as you build a comprehensive market in Latin America (…)," he added.

Trade between the two nations is excellent thanks to a Free Trade Agreement that facilitates it. Plus, exports and imports are growing, the ambassador indicated.

Peruvian agro-exports to the Netherlands amount to over US$850 million per year, while total shipments exceed US$1 billion.

Meanwhile, Dutch sales to the South American nation total over US$300 million.

Coffee, cacao, avocados, asparagus, grapes, and some citrus fruits are among the most demanded products from the Inca country.

He went on to add there is a great demand for organic and sustainable pest control products.

On the other hand, Dutch companies are already present in the gas sector (Shell), hypermarkets (Macro), and multinationals (Unilever, APM Terminals), among others.

Moreover, financial entity Rabobank will open a representative office in Peru.
