IMF raises Peru 2018 growth forecast to 4.1%

16:41 | Lima, Oct. 9.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) revised upwards Peru's 2018 economic growth forecast from 3.7% to 4.1% in its latest report “World Economic Outlook: Challenges to Steady Growth.”

Furthermore, the IMF maintains its 2019 growth projection at 4.1%.

On the other hand, the institution has revised downwards Latin America and the Caribbean's GDP forecast from 1.6% to 1.2% for this year.

"Our reassessment is more dramatic for emerging markets as a group, where we see growth easing in Latin America (notably Argentina, Brazil, Mexico)," it said.

Right after Paraguay (4.4%) and Bolivia (4.3%), Peru has the highest projection for 2018 among South American countries.

However, Argentina and Venezuela are estimated to experience negative growth (-2.6% and -18%, respectively).
