11:00 | Lima, Aug. 13.

A batch of 569,790 Pfizer doses landed in Peru on Thursday evening to enable the process of protecting citizens nationwide to remain in force, Health Minister Hernando Cevallos has affirmed.

"This batch from Pfizer will serve to complete the administration of second doses and for groups of people vulnerable to COVID-19, such as those suffering from rare diseases, who need to be covered by vaccines," he said.

The high-ranking official revealed that one million Sinopharm doses will arrive on August 15, which will allow an increase in the number of immunizations.

"A Vaccinathon will be scheduled for next weekend in order to have a greater number of people immunized as soon as possible," Cevallos announced.

"The population has to remain calm because all vaccines arriving in the country will immediately be administered in every region, in the most democratic manner (...). We need to close gaps. There are still older adults who have not received both doses and areas of the country that are lagging behind," he explained.

Lastly, the Cabinet member said "we hope that in September we will have enough vaccines to continue advancing with the (remaining) age groups."
