11:03 | Lima, Oct. 1.

The chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, as well as the heads of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and National Police expressed their full support for the constitutional order and for President Martin Vizcarra as Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces and National Police of Peru.

Head of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, Cesar Astudillo, as well as commanders general Jorge Celis (Army), Fernando Cerdan (Navy), Rodolfo Garcia (Air Force), and Jose Luis Lavalle (National Police) headed to the Government Palace to voice their support for Peru's commander-in-chief.

Once there, the high-ranking officials reaffirmed their backing and recognized Martin Vizcarra as the only constitutional President of Peru.

The Joint Command of the Armed Forces, each of the three armed forces, and the National Police issued respective statements to the public opinion in order to leave a written record of such recognition.

The Armed Forces' statement indicated that the institution's main task is to guarantee independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Peru.

Meanwhile, the National Police remarked that, according to article 166 of the Constitution, it is determined to maintain and restore internal order as well as to ensure compliance with the laws and safeguard the security of public and private properties across the national territory. Plus, it claimed to be subordinate to constitutional power.

The decision was taken after Parliament denied its confidence to two Councils of Ministers of the Government elected for the 2016–2021 period.
