Peru and Venezuela tied 0-0 on Saturday afternoon in their Group A opener at the 2019 Copa America in Brazil.

Both teams' debut match was marked by two goals chalked off after consultation with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

VAR disallowed two Peruvian goals scored by Christofer Gonzales and Jefferson Farfan.

The game showed an Incan side tied up by their opponents, who showed a good performance for most of the match.

Venezuela played the last 16 minutes with 10 men after Luis Mago earned a red card.

This means both sides are tied in second place ahead of Bolivia with Brazil at the top of Group A.

The game was held at Arena do Gremio Stadium in Porto Alegre.

Peru will next face Bolivia on June 18 at Rio de Janeiro's Maracana Stadium.

Preparation games

As is known, Gareca's men defeated their Costa Rican counterparts 1-0, on June 5, in their penultimate friendly match as preparation for the aforementioned continental tournament.

However, the Incas lost against Colombia (3-0) in their last friendly. Both matches took place in the Peruvian capital.

Peru has been drawn in Group A with Brazil, Venezuela, and Bolivia.
