Peru and Türkiye strengthen bilateral relations

As part of the official visit by Peruvian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Felix Denegri to the Republic of Türkiye, the 9th Political Consultation Mechanism was held in the city of Ankara on Wednesday.

The mechanism was co-chaired by Turkish Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Zeki Levent Gümrükçü, reaffirming the excellent level of bilateral political dialogue and the renewed dynamism in relations between both countries.

In that context, the presence of the Peruvian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister in Ankara constitutes a clear expression of Peru's commitment to strengthening and deepening bilateral ties, as well as to consolidating an agenda focused on concrete results.

During the meeting, both delegations conducted a comprehensive review of the bilateral agenda.

Similarly, they agreed to continue strengthening political dialogue and economic, trade, tourism, scientific, technical, and cultural cooperation between both nations.

In this regard, the signing of cooperation instruments in areas such as scientific research, disaster and emergency management, as well as support for dependent family members of diplomatic personnel, was underscored.

Likewise, progress on other instruments in areas such as tourism and environmental cooperation was highlighted.

In the economic and trade sphere, both sides agreed on the importance of continuing to promote the dynamism of the relationship, stressing the growth of bilateral trade and the need to move toward greater commerce diversification and the use of new investment opportunities.

In that regard, the importance of strengthening business ties and promoting initiatives that contribute to increasing trade, investment, and tourism for the benefit of both countries' citizens was underscored.

Deputy Minister Denegri also highlighted the strategic importance of establishing direct flights between Türkiye and Peru by Turkish Airlines, which would significantly contribute to strengthening trade, tourism, and connectivity between both countries.

In the multilateral sphere, the delegations addressed highly relevant issues on the international agenda, including the situation in Latin America, with emphasis on challenges related to governance, migration, and regional security.

The development of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and its implications for international stability were discussed, along with the evolution of the situation in the Middle East, particularly tension scenarios such as those in the Gulf.

Furthermore, issues related to strengthening the multilateral system, coordination within international organizations, and reciprocal support for candidacies were discussed.

At the conclusion of this meeting, both sides expressed their willingness to continue strengthening bilateral relations, as well as to maintain the regularity of this mechanism, whose next edition would be held in Peru.
