The Governments of Peru and Mexico announced on Friday the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries in a joint statement.
"The Governments of the Republic of Peru and the United Mexican States, considering the historic bonds of brotherhood, friendship, and cooperation that unite Peru and Mexico, agreed today to restore diplomatic relations between both States," the communiqué said.
The Governments of the Republic of Peru and the United Mexican States reaffirm their respect for international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter, according to the document.
Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos Espa had previously said that his administration would seek to restore Peru's relations with Mexico to the level of dialogue and cooperation they have historically maintained.
Peru had not maintained diplomatic relations with Mexico since November 2025.
