Peru and Kuwait held the 2nd Meeting of the Bilateral Consultation Mechanism, a gathering that reaffirmed both countries' commitment to sustained political dialogue and the expansion of their cooperation agenda.
During the meeting, it was highlighted that this dialogue takes on special significance as the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations will be commemorated on December 1.
In this regard, the authorities welcomed the progress of the commemorative activities, which include the release of the Peru–Kuwait postage stamp and the publication of the book Peru–Kuwait: Half a Century of Friendship and Cooperation.
In the political sphere, Peru reiterated the importance of strengthening high-level dialogue.
Likewise, it highlighted the renewed momentum generated by the official visit of a Peruvian Foreign Minister to Kuwait last April.
Moreover, both delegations exchanged views on regional and multilateral issues, including the situation in Gaza, emphasizing the need to advance peace efforts.
In economic and trade matters, the state of bilateral trade was reviewed, which reached US$1.4 million in 2024. The growth potential in the agro-export sector was also acknowledged.
Additionally, progress was discussed regarding a potential Kuwaiti business delegation visit to Peru and the possible signing of an agreement between the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Lima Chamber of Commerce.
The discussions also covered progress in negotiating key economic instruments, such as the Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement and the Agreement on the Reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investments, as well as the importance of establishing an Air Services Agreement.
In terms of cooperation, both parties highlighted progress toward signing agreements in key areas such as food security, energy, health, cybersecurity, and cultural heritage.
The joint efforts to implement a humanitarian demining training program for Kuwaiti personnel in 2026 were also highlighted.
Lastly, both delegations agreed on the constructive nature of the meeting and emphasized that the Bilateral Consultation Mechanism is an essential tool to strengthen the relationship, promote new areas of cooperation, and generate tangible benefits for citizens.
