The Peruvian National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT) and the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China signed a roadmap to improve the exchange of information and technical assistance.
The main objective is to prioritize electronic data management and the verification of compliance with customs legislation.
The Roadmap will also promote mutual recognition of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Program, as well as improve competitiveness and facilitate secure foreign trade for Peruvian exports from sectors such as mining, oil, aquaculture, and frozen foods.
Other areas in which both parties will collaborate include combating smuggling and strengthening customs capacities, contributing to the modernization of customs administration.
The signing took place today at the SUNAT headquarters in Chucuito (Callao), by the National Superintendent, Javier Franco, and the Minister of the General Administration of Customs of China, Sun Meijun.
During the visit of the Chinese delegation to the SUNAT facilities, a “Letter of Intent for Cooperation between the Chancay Customs Office and the Shanghai Customs Office” was also signed.
The purpose of this letter is to promote joint work based on the exchange of experiences for the development of smart customs systems, optimizing processes to improve trade facilitation between the two countries.
It is important to mention that Chinese products imported through the Port of Chancay have exceeded US$759 million so far this year, with vehicles and machinery being the main imported goods.
On the other hand, exports to China exceed US$423 million, with products such as blueberries, metallic minerals, avocados, and squid being the most prominent.
Furthermore, 79% of the Customs Declarations of Goods (DAM) processed through the Port of Chancay are destined for China, demonstrating the importance of our trade operations with this Asian giant.
The DAM is the legal document that details the entry or exit of goods from the country, identifying the applicable customs regime and describing the merchandise.
The head of SUNAT (Peru's tax and customs authority), Javier Franco, emphasized his administration's commitment to further strengthening the security of the international logistics chain through facilitation and the ongoing fight against smuggling, contributing to trade with the world's leading economies, including China, our main trading partner.
