The Peruvian and Brazilian Governments have signed a bilateral cooperation agreement aimed at efficiently using renewable energies and improving the development of small-scale mining activities.
The document —inked by
Energy and Mines Minister Francisco Ismodes and his Brazilian counterpart Bento Albuquerque— reaffirms the interest of both countries in strengthening bilateral cooperation on small-scale mining, energy planning, radioactive materials, and professional training.
In this sense, Minister Albuquerque requested the Inca country's official to send a technical mission to Brazil in order to identify other possible common fields between the two nations.
Mining competitiveness and sustainability
Likewise, Minister Ismodes announced his portfolio will present better rules with the purpose of improving competitiveness in
Peru's mining sector, promoting
greater investments in exploration projects, and speeding up administrative procedures for their corresponding execution.
"We must take advantage of the country's huge geological potential," the official expressed.
Furthermore, the adaptation of the regulatory framework for the exploitation of radioactive minerals and the presentation of the new regulations for mining proceedings are currently being developed.
"We are working on a closure plan that efficiently regulates the end of mining operations, guaranteeing its progressive closure, and the mitigation of the effects caused on the environment," he concluded.
