Agro-exports amounted to US$2.745 billion between January and June 2018, a 19% growth over the same period in 2017 (US$2.303 billion), the Association of Peruvian Farming Producers (AGAP) reported.
Thus, the agricultural activity remains the Inca country's second-largest exporting sector, it stressed.
Said increase was mainly boosted by the fresh
fruits and
vegetables sub-sector, which reached US$1.389 billion (+26%) in shipments.
Top destinations were the European continent and the United States.
Fresh fruit shipments experienced the highest growth (US$1.236 billion; +29%) in the first half of 2018 compared to the same period in 2017 (US$957 million).
Within this framework, the most exported products were
avocados (US$426 million; +17%), grapes (US$304 million; +28%), mangoes (US$202 million; +46%), and organic bananas (US$78 million; +1%), among others.
Vegetables
On the other hand, the fresh vegetables sub-sector registered a 7% increase in the first half of 2018.
Asparagus (US$127 million; +6%), onions (US$17 million; +62%), and peas (US$3 million; +109%) stood out in this sense.
Traditional product exports reached US$178 million between Jan-Jun 2018, AGAP concluded.
