Malaysia authorized the entry of Peruvian citrus fruits into its territory, following a long process that began back in 2012, Peru's Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry (Minagri) announced Thursday.
According to Minagri Head Gustavo Mostajo, this was the result of joint efforts undertaken by the National Agricultural Sanitation Service (Senasa) and several organizations like
Procitrus.
It must be noted said decision comes a few weeks after the Inca country welcomed a delegation composed of agricultural sanitation specialists from Malaysia's Department of Agriculture (DoA).
During the visit, Malaysian experts met with their peers from Senasa and visited Lima, Ica, as well as La Libertad regions to learn about the actions implemented in production, packing, and phytosanitary certification processes for the export of Peruvian vegetables.
Citrus fruits
This way,
Peruvian citrus fruits —including tangerines, oranges, and tangelos— can be exported to Malaysia through an import permit previously requested to DoA by the interested party residing in the Asian nation.
Thus,
Malaysia becomes a new target market for these natural products.
It is worth mentioning
Inca citrus fruit exports currently arrive in the United States, China, Brazil, Chile, and the Dominican Republic, as well as European countries.
