Valerio Santa Cruz —a 90-year-old man native to Andean Cajamarca region— is a strong and tireless fighter who has survived the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19) disease in Peru, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) has reported.

With his victory, Santa Cruz became the oldest Peruvian to be discharged, after spending 19 days in the hospital battling the virus.

The senior citizen was admitted to Dos de Mayo Hospital on Friday, March 27, and received a positive test result for COVID-19 two days later.

After a tough fight, assisted by health heroes, he was discharged. Today, Peru and his family celebrate his recovery.

Figures

Since the beginning of the epidemic until April 15 at 00:00 (local time), Peru has registered a total of 2,632 epidemiological discharges and 476 hospital discharges.

Minsa is the official source of authorized information on coronavirus in the South American country. Thus, the content circulating in social media and other unofficial networks should not be deemed as true.

The ministry recommends washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; covering nose and mouth with the forearm or a tissue when coughing or sneezing; avoiding eye, nose, and mouth touching with unwashed hands; and avoiding close contact with people who have respiratory illnesses.
