Peru: 80% of fish flour exports arrive in China

13:04 | Lima, Jul. 25.

80% of Peruvian fish flour exports —in the first half of 2019— were destined for China, amounting to US$892 million, up by 4% compared to the same period last year, Universidad Privada del Norte's (UPN) International Business and Management Coordinator Berenice Cajavilca has affirmed.

According to the Association of Peruvian Exporters (Adex), Peru is the main fish flour producer in the world.

Besides, the traditional fishing sector has registered a better performance compared to the similar term in 2018 (+37.7%).

Likewise, Cajavilca indicated the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with China has been essential for the Inca country's growth.

On the other hand, she mentioned Peru has business opportunities —with other countries— that are not being fully utilized.

"Peru has a lot to provide, but we cannot be exporters thinking that everyone should come here. We must go out and search (…)," the UPN representative said.

"We need professionals who are capable of negotiating and researching, who have a strategic vision to enter diverse, multi-cultural, and global markets," she concluded.
