The Ministry of Health (Minsa) on Thursday began the COVID-19 vaccination of people aged 36 and 37 —an age group of 355,000 people in Lima and Callao.

"The vaccination of individuals added 36 and 37 has begun in Lima and Callao, as well as in Ica and Lima region. This is their first dose," Deputy Public Health Minister Gustavo Rosell explained.

"As is known, the lower the age, the larger the group. In Lima and Callao, this group comprises 355,000 people," he added.

The high-ranking official stated that the immunization in this age group will continue in the following days, mainly on August 28 and 29, when the Sixth Vaccinathon will take place.

This weekend, 74 vaccination centers will be available in Lima and Callao. Besides, 28 sites will be used for the Vaccinathon —an event that will provide 36 hours of non-stop vaccination against COVID-19.

Rosell commented that each age group has each own immunization characteristics, and the sector is adapting to cover everyone in a timely and close way.

For instance, he said the elderly used to turn out early in the morning, while youth use their breaks at work or prefer to take part in the Vaccinathon at night.

Decentralized vaccination

The other regions joining the Fifth Vaccinathon are: Amazonas, Ancash, Apurimac, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Huanuco, Ica, Junin, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Lima provinces, Loreto, Piura, Puno, San Martin, Ucayali, and Cajamarca.
