The Sixth Vaccinathon will take place on August 28 and 29, giving priority to regions that are still awaiting this mass vaccination event.

The announcement was made by Health Minister Hernando Cevallos, who noted that more and more people will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccination as additional vaccines become available.

"We need to overcome resistance and include more people, and this will be possible as more vaccines become available in the country," the government official explained.

Cevallos highlighted the fact that the next Vaccinathon will run in regions like Lambayeque, where the Delta variant was detected two days ago.

"The vaccination drive will take place on Saturday and Sunday. The regions where a Vaccinathon has not yet been implemented will be included and privileged this time. Let us bear in mind that it (the Vaccinathon) has been conducted in 15 regions already, but there are regions where these campaigns are still necessary," he noted.

Remarks were made on Sunday evening during the Fifth Vaccinathon's closing ceremony held at Carlos A. Moscoso stadium in Lima's Surquillo district.

Additionally, the minister revealed that the COVID-19 vaccination of people aged 36 and older will start this week.

"It is key to reduce the age bar and, in fact, we are doing it. We are also interested in closing gaps (…). The age limit will be lowered to 36 years," he told Canal N on Sunday.
