Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra has announced that
12,000 members will join the National Police force by the end of the year in order to ensure security in the streets and the fight against organized crime.
In addition, the Head of State reported that new patrol cars will be put into service, that is, a total of 900 units will be available to citizens —24 hours a day— by the end of 2019.
The Peruvian leader presided over on Saturday the closing and graduation ceremony of 164 second lieutenants of the
National Police Officers School, whom he urged to be agents of change in order to continue building a solid, modern police, as well as to act firmly and vigorously against insecurity.
Mr. Vizcarra emphasized that the population demands that criminals be arrested and brought to justice.
"They enter active service at a crucial moment: when we need to remove bad elements from the
National Police, those who don't deserve to be part of the institution, and when we have to give a more decisive and stronger response to crime. The country's efforts to open a new stage of progress and development require a strong and solid police presence, as well as an environment of stability and order," he stated.
Peru's top official reiterated that his Government fully supports the National Police as well as the forces of law and order who fulfill their work with efficiency and social vocation, although it is ruthless towards bad elements who break the oath of service and dishonor the institution.
In order to equip the police with the means and tools necessary to fulfill its mission, the Head of State disclosed that the new and modern National Police Hospital will be opened soon to bring a better experience to police officers on active duty, their relatives, and retired members.
He also announced the inauguration of 10 macro-regional schools, which are to operate on a decentralized basis through 2023.
"The fight against corruption and impunity requires us to be firm and consistent in the oath of service. No step back in the fight against crime. No step back in the dismantling of criminal organizations. No step back in the restoration of the principle of authority," he said.
