The national school feeding program Qali Warma delivers 106.2 tons of safe and quality food for 7,000 indigenous citizens in more than 12 communities belonging to Achuar, Kandoshi and Quechua indigenous peoples in situation of vulnerability living in Andoas District of Datem del Marañon Province
Qali Warma explained that the delivery is made at the request of the Municipality of Andoas and within the framework of Legislative Decree No. 1472, which allows the aforementioned social program to buy and deliver food at the request of district municipalities, ministries, and the
National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci).
Thus, the decree expands Qali Warma's coverage to exceptionally include people in situation of vulnerability in the current context of health emergency caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The distribution is carried out through municipalities and sectors that may require so.
"I thank the
Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion for providing us —through Qali Warma— with this food for our Achuar, Kandoshi and Quechua indigenous peoples in Pastaza, Huasaga, Huituyacu, Manchari and Morona river basins," Andoas Mayor Felipe Martinez expressed.
Before the distribution in said Loreto district, Qali Warma specialists conducted an organoleptic test on the products at the supplier's warehouse under strict supervision and release protocols in order to verify compliance with current health regulations and the program's requirements, thus ensuring the quality and safety of the food.
The products are produced based on technical specifications required by the country's health authority and Qali Warma, in line with the Healthy Food Law. Thus, they do not exceed the level of recommended sugar and fat intake.
The delivered foodstuffs include noodles, rice, beans, milk, sugar, canned fish chunks in vegetable oil products, banana flour, kiwicha oats and oil, among others.
