Pan Am Games: Peru's largest-ever delegation expected in Lima 2019

The Peruvian Olympic Committee (COP) has confirmed that the national delegation set to attend the Lima 2019 Pan American Games comprises 827 people and will be largest in Peru's history since the 1951 games.

The Peruvian team includes 592 athletes (308 men and 284 women), as well as 235 officials (coaches, delegates, assistant coaches, and doctors). Athletes will compete in 38 sports and 61 disciplines.

Peru Gymnastics Federation President and COP member, Jenny Martinez, will be Chef de Mission of the largest Peruvian delegation ever participating at the Games.

According to COP's official data, water sports have the most athletes. In total, 61 swimmers will complete in the five disciplines (swimming, open water swimming, artistic swimming, diving, and water polo).

For its part, racquetball has the least amount of athletes, with only three national participants.

About Lima 2019

The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will gather 6,680 athletes from 41 countries and delegations of the Americas. The continental event will open on July 26 at the National Stadium located in the Peruvian capital. 

The competitions will take place in 14 districts of Lima and Callao. Some of the main venues will be VIDENA, Villa Maria del Triunfo Sports Center, Callao Regional Sports Village, Villa El Salvador Sports Center, Punta Rocas, among others.

The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will include 39 sports and 61 disciplines, in which athletes will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. A total of 22 disciplines are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The Parapan American Games will gather 1,890 Para athletes from 33 countries, who will participate in 17 Para sports and 18 disciplines. 

Competitions will take place from August 23 to September 1, 2019. Additionally, 13 sports will be qualifiers for Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
