The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has congratulated the Peruvian Government for its decision to move towards Universal Health Care aimed at reducing inequalities and existing gaps for four million citizens residing in Peru, who do not rely on any health insurance.

The recorded and broadcast announcement was made on the Universal Health Coverage Day by Regional Director Carissa Etienne

The PAHO Director also said that Peru's Health Minister Elizabeth Hinostroza will have the task of leading the implementation of the corresponding urgency decree.

"Colleagues, history shows that universal access to health and universal health coverage are goals that can truly be achieved," she emphasized.

Funding

Etienne noted that universal health coverage requires equitable, efficient, and sustainable funding.

"Without the necessary resources, it is impossible to ensure the access to health services," she noted.

Likewise, the director said that great innovation is needed for the organization of health systems to reduce the existing fragmentation.
