Pacific Alliance foreign affairs ministers meet with observer countries

17:20 | Lima, Jul. 5.

Foreign Affairs Ministers of Peru, Colombia, Chile and Mexico —countries that make up the Pacific Alliance— held a work meeting with observer states of such economic and trade integration mechanism.

Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio took part in the meeting, organized within the framework of the 14th Summit of the Pacific Alliance in Lima.

Earlier on Friday, the bloc's foreign trade ministers held a working session with observer states.

Afterwards, the non-member observers participated in a similar meeting with Pacific Alliance finance ministers.

The gathering will begin at 9:00 AM with an official welcome ceremony and the private meeting between Heads of State of the four founding nations.

About the bloc

The Pacific Alliance —created in 2011— is an integration initiative focused on reducing trade barriers, as well as fostering the free circulation of goods, services, capitals, and people across its territories.

The bloc relies on observer countries and represents the eighth-largest economy in the world.

Nowadays, it has become the axis of a new way of doing business in the continent.

On an annual basis, the Pacific Alliance rotates the pro-tempore presidency among its members.

Peru assumed the pro-tempore presidency of the Pacific Alliance at the bloc's summit held on July 24, 2018, in the Mexican city of Puerto Vallarta.

It must be noted Peru handed over the presidency to Chile in 2016, and then Colombia was chosen to hold it in 2017.
