Between January and May this year, a total of 844,331 foreign tourists visited Peru, that is, 317,000 additional tourists compared to the same period last year (60.2%), the
Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) reported.
The principal source of visitors to the country was Chile, accounting for 25.5% of the total, followed by the United States (19.2%), Ecuador (9.9%), Colombia (6.1%), and Argentina (4.6%).
As for regions, Mincetur revealed that South America was the main source of foreign visitors to Peruvian territory and made up 54.5% (460,000 tourists) of the total.
For their part, North American tourists accounted for 23.9% (201,000) of the total, while visits from Europe made up 14.7% (124,000 tourists) of the total.
On the other hand, most arrivals were recorded at Jorge Chavez International Airport, with 548,000 foreign tourists (64.9% of the total), while the Santa Rosa border crossing registered the entry of 165,000 tourists (19.5%).

According to the ministerial entity, 181,440 tourists arrived in Peru last May, up 20.6% (an additional flow of 31,000 tourists) over the same month in 2022.
Said figure represents a decline of 49.6% compared to May 2029 (pre-pandemic).
