Over 3.3 million Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines land in Peru

11:09 | Lima, Sep. 12.

A batch of 3,342,600 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from Sinopharm laboratory has arrived in Peru to speed up the vaccination of the population.

The cargo landed at Lima's Jorge Chavez International Airport on Saturday evening.

Health Minister Hernando Cevallos supervised the arrival of this shipment, which will be distributed to all regions across Peru as soon as possible.

"We have good news. This is the largest shipment (of vaccines) that has arrived in the country, because more than 3,300,000 vaccines are being unloaded, and over 700,000 jabs will arrive tomorrow (September 12) to total 4 million between Saturday and Sunday," he remarked.

"This is a very important shipment, which will be immediately distributed to all regions in the country," the government official stated.

The health sector's head indicated that this new batch of jabs will be distributed in a decentralized manner and will strengthen the strategy "Vamos a tu encuentro. Vacunate ya" (We will come to you. Get vaccinated now), launched by the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

"These (vaccination) teams are increasing greatly in all regions, so as to immunize those who cannot go to a vaccination center because of work or other reasons," the minister pointed out.
