Over 2,177,000 foreign tourists visited Peru in 1H 2019

Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Edgar Vasquez on Tuesday reported that the number of foreign tourists visiting Peru increased to 2,177,142 between January and June this year, up 1.9% over the same period in 2018.

"This rise showed a positive balance of 40,461 additional foreign visitors, compared to said period a year ago," he explained.

Vasquez underscored the increase in foreign visits from Chile (6.6%, with an additional flow of 38,436 tourists), the United States (5% or 16,135), Ecuador (27.1% or 34,162), Colombia (7.1% or 7,682), Bolivia (27.1% or 20,350), Mexico (20.2% or 9,226), Spain (4.7% or 3,081), France (14.3% or 6,162), and Canada (9.8% or 4,335).

It must be noted that over 70% of all tourists visiting the Andean nation come from these nine countries.

According to immigration control offices, the arrival of foreign tourists at Jorge Chavez International Airport increased to 1,260,694, thus posting a growth of 5.9%.

Likewise, 506,051 foreign arrivals were recorded at the Santa Rosa border checkpoint in Tacna region.

Therefore, international passengers passing through Jorge Chavez International Airport make up more than half of the total.
