Since the immunization process began in Peru, 2,117,737 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered. Also, 1,410,834 people have received the first dose, while 706,903 are fully vaccinated with a second dose,
Agrarian Development and Irrigation Minister Federico Tenorio has reported.
"We have administered more than 2 million doses of the vaccine," the minister said in the conference he gave on Monday, together with Interior Minister Jose Elice, at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM).
Olinda, 84, became the two millionth person to receive a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. She was identified —in a symbolic way— as such after she received the jab in Lima's El Agustino district.
People with comorbidities
He reiterated that the vaccination of people with comorbidities will begin on May 11, with people with Down syndrome —aged above 18 years— being first in the vaccination line, while the immunization of patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment will start on May 12.
"There are around 15,000 patients with chronic kidney diseases and undergoing hemodialysis throughout the country, and they will be vaccinated in the establishments where they usually receive their treatment," the Cabinet member explained.
Citizen surveillance
Asked about the case of a senior citizen who allegedly received an empty shot of the COVID-19 vaccine at the time of inoculation, which is circulating on social networks, Tenorio affirmed that relevant investigations are being carried out and the Executive Branch will issue a statement on the matter in the next few days.
However, "we are strengthening all the protocols to ensure that all people are vaccinated correctly," he said.
