In 2024, the year in which Peru will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum —
whose Presidency it assumed on November 17—
more than 160 meetings will be held in Trujillo, Arequipa, Urubamba, Pucallpa, and Lima —the five cities chosen as the venues for such an important event.
"These are meetings of different types: working groups, forums, seminars, technical teams, ministerial meetings, everything that leads to the realization of the summit to be held in Lima, in November 2024," APEC Peru 2024 Presidency Working Group Chair,
Ambassador Carlos Chavez-Taffur, told RPP Noticias on
November 2.
The diplomat reported that meetings of Trade and Women ministers will be held in Arequipa, as well as a joint gathering involving both sectors.
The meetings of Tourism ministers and Finance's high-ranking officials will be hosted by the city of Urubamba, Cusco region.
Meanwhile, the meeting of SMEs ministers will take place in the city of Pucallpa.
In addition, the city of Trujillo will host the Food Security Week, which will be completed with a meeting of Agriculture ministers.
According to Chavez-Taffur, the Meeting of Leaders and Heads of State and Government will be held in Lima, at Lima Convention Center, for which the necessary coordination will be made.
Likewise, the International Media Center will be located at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture.
As part of preparatory actions —he said— the working group has visited the different venues, providing information about the APEC forum, as well as drawing support from regional and local authorities, private sector associations, universities, and citizens in general.
