Former Odebrecht representative in Peru Jorge Barata revealed that Apra was the code name used by the Brazilian construction company to identify the sums of money to the presidential campaign of late ex-President Alan Garcia, El Comercio newspaper has reported.
Barata made a statement to the
Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group specifying new information that Odebrecht provided in September about illegal payments —worth almost US$59 million— to 71 code names for 13 projects between January 2006 and May 2011.
The code name 'Apra' appears in payroll records of Box Two of the Division of Structured Operations, also known as the company's bribery department.
The newspaper said it had access to the payroll records —that the company submitted to Peruvian prosecutors— in which 'Apra' was the code name for two payments: one on March 14, 2006, and the other on June 15, 2007, for a total of US$183,024.
In addition, the publication stressed that Barata confirmed contributions to
Ollanta Humala's and
Keiko Fujimori's 2011 presidential campaigns under the code name 'Campanha Nacional' (National Campaign).
This is not the first time the former Odebrecht representative reports on the delivery of money to Nationalist Party and Popular Force (former Force 2011) leaders.
Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group's activities will continue today, with the interrogation of former Odebrecht Colombia Director Eleuberto Martorelli.
